All of these times, we are only familiar with body lotion but nowadays there are plenty of beauty brands that produce various types of body care which seems similar to body lotion, some of them are body serum, body cream, and so on. Sounds confusing sometimes that we may end up using body lotion all over again. However, aren’t you curious about the difference between all of these body care products? Because I am!

Recently I’ve been introduced to Scarlett Whitening’s version of the body care series consisting of body serum, body cream, and body lotion. I’ve been using their body lotion several times but this is my first time trying their body serum and body cream. All of them are coming in Jolly series so that helps me to make comparisons.

Keep reading to find out the real difference between these products plus bonus tips on how to choose the most suitable body moisturizer for your daily routine!

1. BODY LOTION

Body lotion is a lightweight moisturizer that contains higher water content than body cream. Body lotion tends to feel less greasy and absorbs quickly into skin. It suits for all skin types, but normal to oily skin might find it works very well.

What it is:

It contains Glutathione (Mother of Antioxidant), vitamin E, Niacinamide, Kojic Acid, and Titanium Dioxide to help maintain skin moisture.

  • Glutathione: to brighten and even skin tone. Its antioxidant agent makes skin healthier, moist, and brighter.

  • Vitamin E: to maintain skin’s elasticity and moisture.

  • Kojic Acid: to even skin tone.

  • Niacinamide: to brighten skin, helps to disguise dark spots on the skin.

  • Titanium Dioxide: to protect skin from side effects of UV rays.

How to use:

Apply body lotion onto hands and legs evenly. It can be used everyday and every time you need it. For me personally, the best time to apply body lotion is daily after a shower on cleansed skin. This will help to seal and lock in moisture.

Packaging:

Light yet sturdy plastic bottle packaging, securely sealed with plastic lock on the neck of the pump. The product is sealed with plastic wrap as well.

Texture:

Creamy, thick texture with strong, pleasant combination of coffee-floral-vanilla scent.

Review:

This body lotion is quickly absorbed into the skin and doesn’t leave any greasy feeling. The main reason I love this body lotion is because of the scent! It is able to stay up to 5 hours without reapplying and I pretty much find it very economical. It can moisturise and hydrate my skin well.

Pros:

  • Safely sealed with double lock

  • Strong, pleasant scent

  • Economical

  • Quickly absorbs into skin

  • Doesn’t leave greasy feeling

  • Moisturize and hydrate skin well

Cons: None

2. BODY CREAM

Body cream is a thicker, richer version of body lotion. It is designed to hydrate and nourish skin - so although all skin types can use body cream, dry skin type will reap the benefits of this product. Dry skin tends to need extra moisture, that’s why the consistency of body cream will suit them well.

What it is:

With the help of Hyaluronic Acid, 5 Phyto Oil, Shea Butter, and Aloe Vera extract, this body cream claims to be able to moisturize 4x times deeper than usual body cream.

  • Hyaluronic Acid: to maintain skin moisture that makes skin feels smooth.

  • 5 Phyto Oil: to moisturize and smoothen skin, helps to maintain skin’s health.

  • Shea Butter: to maintain skin’s rejuvenation, makes skin feel firm.

  • Niacinamide: to brighten skin and disguise dark spots on skin.

  • Glutathione: to even skin tone.

  • Titanium Dioxide: to protect skin from side effects of UV rays.

How to use:

Apply body cream on the dry part of skin to help add moisture. For me, the best time to use body cream is straight after a shower when skin is still a little bit damp because it helps to secure more hydration into the skin. I like to use it at night before sleeping as well.

Packaging:

Tall yet sturdy plastic bottle packaging, securely sealed with plastic lock on the neck of the pump. You can secure the lock by turning it to the left-right, just like how the body lotion packaging. The product is sealed with plastic wrap as well.

Texture:

Creamy, thicker texture with strong, pleasant combination of coffee-floral-vanilla scent.

Review:

Because the texture is thicker than body lotion, this body cream needs a longer time to fully absorb into the skin. It doesn’t leave a greasy feeling and the scent is as strong as the body lotion. I like how it gives extra moisture to my dry skin and gives a fresh sensation after use. Just like body lotion, the scent stays for quite a long time as well.

Pros:

  • Safely sealed with double lock

  • Strong, pleasant scent

  • Doesn’t leave greasy feeling

  • Moisturize and nourish skin well, especially dry skin

Cons:

  • Takes some time to completely absorbs into skin

Price: IDR 75.000 (around $5) / 300 ml

3. BODY SERUM

Body serum is used to target some skin problems such as dryness or flakiness, tired-looking skin, or dull skin. The consistency of body serum can vary a lot, depending on the product type.

What it is:

Body serum with the help of Glutathione, Niacinamide, and Glycolic Acid, claims to be able to brighten skin 3 times more efficiently than other body serum.

  • Glutathione: to even skin tone.

  • Niacinamide: to brighten and disguise dark spots on skin.

  • Glycolic Acid: to exfoliate dead skin cells and brighten skin.

  • Ceramide 2: to maintain skin to stay smooth, soft.

  • Hyaluronic Acid: to maintain skin moisture so that skin feels smooth.

  • Shea Butter: to keep skin rejuvenated and makes skin feel firm.

  • Vitamin E: to maintain skin elasticity.

  • Titanium Dioxide: to protect skin from side effects of UV rays.

How to use:

Apply body serum onto hands or legs evenly and can be used anytime you want to. For me personally, I prefer to use this body serum before additional body cream or body lotion. This will allow the serum to deeply penetrate into skin.

Packaging:

Taller, thinner yet sturdy plastic bottle packaging, securely sealed with acrylic closure. The product is sealed with plastic wrap as well.

Texture:

Creamy, lighter texture with slightly strong, pleasant combination of coffee-floral-vanilla scent.

Review:

Compared to body lotion and body cream, this body serum has the lightest texture among all. Its scent is also less strong compared to the others. I like how it quickly absorbs into my skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. It doesn’t leave any greasy feeling as well!

Pros:

  • Safely sealed packaging

  • Strong, pleasant scent

  • Quickly absorbs into skin

  • Doesn’t leave greasy feeling

  • Makes skin softer and smoother

Cons: None

  1. Really loved your review on these 3 skin care products! I personally love lotion and body cream when I have time for it to sink into my skin :)) I only use oil on my hair but now I want to try it for body as well.
