Healthy, glowing skin can be achieved easily by the work of makeup, but the best action to achieve radiant complexion is definitely by choosing the right skincare that boosts skin’s glow. In this case, brightening serum might be the right choice to achieve that radiant-looking skin. However my journey on finding the right brightening serum is quite tricky and bumpy, because most brightening serum I know contains vitamin C, while my skin is super sensitive to it (it always ends up with white heads). Therefore, when I first heard that an Indonesian brand named 20MEFREE released a Brightening Serum Licorice Mefree, I felt tempted to try it because of Licorice as their main ingredient (no vitamin C!).

What makes this brand unique?

Because it uses “Time Release” technology, the product is formulated with a delivery system that controls how an active product is released into the skin over time after application.

As we know, brightening serums are becoming increasingly popular due to their ability to improve the skin's appearance and texture. With so many options out there, it can be difficult to decide which one is right for us. That's why I've put together this honest review about this brightening serum. I’ll discuss each product's ingredients, benefits, and overall impressions to help you make an informed decision about whether this brightening serum licorice is best for you. I understand we love product that delivers instant result, so let’s get to know more about this product immediately, shall we?

What it is:

Face serum with ingredients that are able to brighten the skin and is able to prevent the skin from darkening after exposure to sunlight. It also prevents dull skin and is able to regenerate the skin. It contains of :

  • Licorice : to brightens the skin and able to prevent the skin from darkening after exposure to sunlight

  • Niacinamide 5% : a form of vitamin B3 which is important to help regenerate or repair cells in the skin.

  • Tranexamoyl-23 : to brighten skin by gently removing dead skin cells.

It claims that it is able to brighten skin colour, even skin tone, keeps skin moist, disguise black spots, remove acne scars, controls facial oil production and shrinks pores, protects the skin from exposure to the sun's UVB rays.

How to use:

After face cleansing, pour a few drops of serum on hands and wipe face evenly, wait until it dries and sinks in. For maximum results, use it before bedtime.

Packaging:

By using elegant yet minimalist packaging, Brightening Serum MeFree can stand out and provide a luxurious experience. The sleek design of the minimalist packaging also makes me easily identify the product and its purpose, making it more attractive than traditional bulky packaging (especially the sliding form paper box). I would like to highlight the glass bottle as well. It is pretty easy to use the pipet and the bottle is quite lightweight as well.

Texture:

The lightweight texture of this serum makes it easy to apply (more like a gel texture), although it requires some time to absorb well into skin. It doesn’t have any scent at all.

Review:

Fyi, my skin type is dry-combination and I use this brightening serum during PMS period, which means my skin becomes more sensitive. From the before picture, you can see how dull and dry my skin is, plus it’s sensitive to acne as well. However, after using this brightening serum several times, my skin feels hydrated, moist, and radiant. I like to use it every night before sleep and layer it with moisturizer.

The texture of a serum can be a major factor in determining how effective it is. I would say, I am not a big fan of the texture because it’s between watery and gel, plus it requires some time for it to totally absorb into the skin. Unfortunately, I find it the texture of this serum to be unpleasant. This can make it difficult to use them consistently, as the texture can make them unappealing or even off-putting. Fortunately, there are ways to adjust the texture of this brightening serum so that it is more comfortable and pleasant to use. By understanding what causes the unpleasant texture and adjusting accordingly, you can get the most out of this brightening serum without compromising on comfort or result, and we’re talking about the greasiness. What I like the most about this product is because it doesn’t leave any greasy or sticky feeling. Although I can’t see the result on how it is able to even skin tone and remove acne scars, I would say this is a great product to try if you’re not into vitamin C as main ingredient.

Pros:

  • Minimalist design
  • Sturdy yet lightweight bottle (travel-friendly)

  • Hydrates skin, makes skin less dull

  • Moisturizes skin

  • Doesn’t leave greasy or sticky feeling

  • Unscented

  • Affordable price

Cons:

  • Gel-alike texture

  • Doesn’t remove acne scar or even skin tone

I would say this Brightening Serum Licorice can be a great addition to my skincare routine, although I might consider it if I use it during skin breakouts. I would prefer to use it to enhance skin glow because it really helps to give radiant glow to my skin, just like what you can see from the picture above. It might help to reduce the appearance of dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and other discolorations on the skin. As every skin type has different result, I would recommend this serum for dry to normal skin instead of oily skin because the texture might not be oily skin’s favourite.

If you are looking for a safe and effective way, then you should try this brightening serum as it has passed BPOM certification. BPOM stands for Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan which is the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration. This certification ensures that the product meets all safety standards, is free from harmful chemicals, and will not cause any adverse reactions on your skin. With this certification, you can be sure that the brightening serum you are using is safe and effective.

So, would you like to try licorice as your next brightening serum?

Special thanks to Jakarta Beauty Blogger for giving me a chance to try this serum.
